Missions We Serve
Opportunities To Serve
Bob and Kristi Rice, serve as Evangelist and Christian Educator in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They firmly believe that God is using their lives to positively impact the lives of others in the name of Jesus Christ in that area. Kristi has established an educational program through which the Congo women may apply for small loans of $150. The women use the loan to begin their own business; thus helping them and their families to become independent.
SANTA EXPRESS FOR QUITMAN HOME
Throughout 2016 we will participate with the Santa Express for the Quitman Home. This Mission event will be an ongoing project. These items can be dropped in collection boxes located in both buildings.
The Presbyterian Student Center at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia has been a part of Campus Ministry from 1980 to present. A free lunch is served twice a week for college students. Also offered is a weekly Bible study and planned social entertainment. We, at First Pres., prepare and serve lunch at least 3 times a year. We intermingle with the students and staff during the mealtime. We have also assisted in the remodeling of the Center by donating skills, services and furnishings. Those who have volunteered and served these students have received a blessing!
at A Place 4 Hope
The Community Resource Center at A Place 4 Hope is a mission outreach of Albany Fir
st Presbyterian Church.Originally established over 7 years ago as part of our Saturday Samaritan meal program, The Community Resource Center is now housed at A Place 4 Hope at The Salvation Army.
Volunteers from our church meet with the homeless and near homeless twice a week to help them find the resources needed to return to a stable and productive lifestyle. Our volunteers help clients by helping them find resources that help with housing, education, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, mental heath resources, medical and prescription assistance, etc.
A Place 4 Hope is a ministry established for the purpose of providing a place of respite for those who find themselves living in the seemingly hopeless circumstance of homelessness. Basic services, such as assistance with personal hygiene, freshly laundered clothing, the ability to communicate via telephone and internet, and the opportunity to personally speak with someone about resources available in our community, are provided to help those we serve move from homelessness to stable housing conditions.
The Center is staffed by volunteers from 10:00AM-Noon on Tuesday and Friday. All volunteers are HIPPA trained. To find out about volunteering, please call the church office or see:

Reading & Rackets
Reading & Racquets is an exciting reading and tennis program that began last spring. First Presbyterian collaborates with the Family Literacy Connection, and Albany Tennis Association to help kids at Jackson Heights Elementary school. We focus on 1st and 2nd graders who are struggling with their reading. In addition to reading help, the kids learn the game of tennis from certified “10 and under” tennis instructors!
We need volunteers willing to serve one hour per week. As a volunteer, you will work one-on-one with a child helping them read books and spell words. The opportunities to serve are on Tuesdays at Jackson Heights from 3-4 o’clock. For more information please contact the church office.
