Who We Are

First Presbyterian Albany is one of the oldest churches in Albany and yet despite its age, the church has reinvented itself several times, each time refocusing itself on Christ and his commandment to love everyone as he loves us and to share his teachings with the world around us.
We do this in a variety of ways. Our congregation, which is a diverse mix of conservative and liberal, young and mature, wealthy and not, is active in volunteer mission efforts throughout our community. These missions include efforts to ease the suffering of the poor and homeless, to help tutor local students, to support Christian missionaries in the Congo and to support downtown Albany revitalization efforts.
On top of these ongoing missions, the church also has activities within the church family meant to grow congregants both in Christian education and fellowship. These include our Wednesday night suppers and Bible Studies; our Fifth Sunday events; the variety of Sunday School offerings; Children’s Church and nursery services and our men’s group, which does a variety of events and projects throughout the year.
Our Session and Diaconate have also placed increasing emphasis on our youth, and have welcomed them to have a more active role in church missions and outreach. They also have special outings that help them grow in their knowledge and love of Christ including various summer camps and activities.
